Associate of Applied
Science
Earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in registered nursing
and learn specific job skills as well as communication skills,
computational skills, applied sciences, computer literacy, human
relations and social science. The AAS can be completed in two years
with full-time attendance after completion of pre-requisite courses.
(See
AAS degree requirements)
Program Admission
Admission is selective and is based on a system of factored points.
Rising costs associated with application processing have forced
Highline Community College to consider charging an application fee
for application to the nursing program.

Related Programs
If you are currently licensed as a practical nurse and would
like to become an RN, we offer that option. (See the
AAS degree requirements.)
If you are interested in earning an AA transfer degree in Pre-Nursing,
please see the
transfer planning sheet or the
Associate in Pre-Nursing for more information.
Articulation Agreements
Nursing offers abundant opportunity for
educational advancement. Highline Community College has formal
progression agreements with University of Washington-Tacoma and
University of Washington-Bothell and is currently developing another
with Seattle Pacific University. These allow Highline graduates who
have passed the licensure exam, NCLEX-RN, to work on Bachelor of
Science degrees on a full or part-time basis.
Many area healthcare employers actively support employees who are
seeking a higher degree. Contact the Human Resources office to
discuss options that may be available to you.
